Surviving Shame

Brené Brown says   “Shame cannot survive being spoken,” Brown says. “It cannot survive empathy.” and because I know this to be true I tend to share my Shame almost instantly. The sooner I share it with a trusted loved one, the less shame I will feel from the situation.

Yesterday I tackled a shame storm that has been with me for a year now. My bedroom closet has been filling up with clothes as I went through a weight loss journey from 2016-2017. I had been trying to sell clothes but it was slow going. I was filled with guilt for how much money I had spent on those clothes. Mind you, the majority of my wardrobe comes from Target/Meijer/Walmart and clearance shopping. Still here I am with 20 feet of hanging racks stuffed full from size 18/20 2XL down to a Small 4/6.

So today I set out to get rid of what I believed would be 99% of these clothes. In reality I found only half of them were actually too big. I am down to about 10 feet of hang space now. I wanted to get it down to about 5.
I am going to celebrate this 50% reduction and keep working on it. As I notice what items I continue to pass over and try on only to take it off because I don’t feel good in it I’m going to keep a donation sack in the closet to immediately remove it. Grace, and love.

It feels good to not carry these bags of clothes through another year!
